Speaker Bio: Bill DeRouchey

Bill DeRouchey is a Studio Lead in the User Experience Center of Excellence at GE in San Francisco. At GE, Bill is primarily responsible for the user experience in a range of projects for GE Aviation. Before joining GE, he logged 20 years in the design and technology world, working in a consulting capacity for clients such as Texas Instruments, Baxter, Lexmark, Logitech, Sirius Satellite, Intel, Patagonia, Portland General Electric, and most recently, as creative director for Simple, a financial startup aiming to reboot personal banking through design, technology and service. Previously, he directed interaction design at Ziba, designing interfaces for things, from patient monitors to satellite radios to air conditioners.

He is a frequent speaker at industry design events (UX Week, UX Australia, IxDconf, SXSW and many more). This year Bill also consulted as part of the People’s Choice Interaction 13 Awards winners UX for Good New Orleans.

Bill also served on the global board of directors for the Interaction Design Association (IxDA). During those fun times, he co-chaired Interaction10, a much-loved conference that pushed the boundaries of the attendees’ experience. Bill is also known for researching and talking about how the history of seemingly basic user interface elements such as buttons personify the history of interaction design. He loves tackling a problem that seems mundane, but is instead rich with complexity and can help people in their everyday lives.
