Project Chameleon
Oct 13, 4:20pm / 25 MINUTES
Chameleon started as a desire to improve the user experience on Android tablets. Specifically, we saw the concept of home screens and widgets as potentially useful ideas that were poorly executed. As part of a prototype for a client, we explored ways to improve the home screen experience. We floated a couple of videos of the prototype and were surprised by the attention we got. It seemed like there was a growing demand for a better user experience.
We put together another video of a revised prototype based on comments the first video received. Looking at the new prototype, we realized we could actually build it if there was a market for it. Testing the waters, we created a Kickstarter campaign to see how big the market it might be. It seemed like we were on to something as Kickstarter got us an explosion of interest from all over the globe. We suddenly had a very active community. We continued using videos as a means to not only stay in touch with our community, but to also turn them into a sounding board for UX decisions. The result is a product that was publicly evolved throughout the development process and into the beta release process.
This session will reveal the sometimes chaotic process behind the creation of Chameleon. You will see how ideas evolved through user testing and how sometimes the desire for design runs into the reality of technology.
