User innovation is everywhere and it’s a huge source of inspiration. When users create, they’re actually solving problems that matter to them personally. Jennifer’s talk will explore why seeking out and learning from our users and their inventions puts us in a better position to solve real problems that real people care about.

Speaker Bio: Jennifer Hogan

Jennifer Hogan is currently Director of User Experience and Design at Getty Images in Calgary, Canada. She leads and supports the multidisciplinary design team responsible for the online experience of iStock by Getty Images, the original resource for superior royalty-free stock imagery and video from the crowd. Prior to Getty Images, Jennifer was a designer at Shaw Communications, one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies, and was a key member of the team that delivered a major redesign and re-architecture of their e-Commerce website.

As a designer and a leader, Jennifer believes that design is a process that drives innovation and helps companies stand out from competition. She’s passionate about educating and getting people excited about the value of design. She believes that business and design priorities aren’t conflicting, strong design is strong business. And, for a design team to be effective it’s not enough to be collaborative, they must be driven, focused and have a seat at the table.

In addition to being an exceptional designer, Jennifer is also one of the organizers of CalgaryUX, a growing Calgary-based community of user experience professionals.
