Sydney’s Leisa Reichelt (UK GDS) joins CanUX 2015

It looks like 2015 is the year of the Great CanUX British invasion

Keeping People at the Heart of Government Service Design
Nov 8, 2015   9:40am / 30 min

It’s easy to say your organisation cares about users, but what does it really take to put them at the heart of your service design process? Leisa shares what she’s learned from working in Government organisations who have really nailed their User First colours to the door, and then had to follow through.

Speaker Bio: Leisa Reichelt

Two years ago, Leisa’s Skype session at UXcamp 2013 received amazing feedback from our participants. This time we’re thrilled that she is able to make it to Ottawa in person. Based in London, she is the Head of User Research at the UK Government Digital Service in the Cabinet Office. She leads a team of great researchers who work in agile, multidisciplinary digital teams to help continuously connect the people who design products with the people who will use them and support experimentation and ongoing learning in product design.

Before joining the public sector, she left the agency and consulting world a few years ago to work on finding ways to help start-ups get access to user experience consultancy, and to make some good experiences of her own. Her background is in user-centred design, design research, and information architecture, and she’s passionate about making these practices more accessible to companies with limited resources.

Her previous clients range from the rather large (Virgin Atlantic, BBC, SonyBMG, HSBC, The Economist, Premier Foods, Pizza Express, Tourism Australia) to the small but growing (AMEE, Anobii, Bright Pearl, Moo, Quidco, SkimLinks, TouchNote) to open-source communities.

Leisa holds a master’s of interactive multimedia from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is a regular on the UX conference circuit, speaking and giving workshops at London IA, UX London, dConstruct, Drupalcon, EuroIA, Future of Web Apps, Web 2.0 Expo, Next, Interesting, GUADEC, Interaction, and Reboot. She has mentored at Seedcamp; coordinates the London UX Bookclub; and founded UX Bootcamp and UX Tuesday, which offers accessible expertise for startups.

She’s currently writing A Practical Guide to Strategic User Experience and she blogs at disambiguity.com. You can follow Leisa on Twitter @leisa
