The 13th edition of CanUX will be postponed until 2025
Preparation for our 2025 edition will begin shortly.
It turns out that this year’s edition of CanUX was the unlucky 13th after all. Following a site visit last week, we have made the difficult decision to postpone CanUX until 2025. A previously undisclosed construction project at the venue grounds that is now scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, combined with the ongoing bridge construction between our venue and the speaker hotel / social venues that has been extended until February 2025, would make the transportation and venue logistics of this year’s event significantly more difficult than usual for our speakers, participants, organizers and volunteers. In addition, the current economic downturn has affected our sponsorship revenue for 2024, projecting higher ticket prices than we anticipated. These circumstances have made CanUX 2024 a much riskier proposition than we’ve originally envisioned, so we’ve made the call to preserve our flexibility and delay our event until next year.
What does the future hold for CanUX?
The truth is, no one knows. It is our hope that the CanUX community we’ve contributed to building and growing over the last 14 years will take these unfortunate news as a sign of respect rather than a retreat. We are committed to continuing to foster a community of practice and strengthen the relationships we’ve built with our attendees, organizers, sponsors, speakers and volunteers. It truly takes a village to piece together a conference of this size year after year, and we hope that this is only a bump in the road for our event. The plan is to attempt to organize CanUX at least one more time. We know that the post-pandemic reality has not been kind to independent conferences like ours, particularly those that do not offer paid speaking slots. Many have shut down, and many others have also postponed their 2024 editions. But the good news is that the UX economy is showing signs of improvement, and our postponement affords us an earlier start to begin planning for our 2025 edition. We really hope that you’ll forgive us for this year, and you’ll consider joining us again in the near future.
Are there other events like CanUX happening this year?
If you’re still looking to attend an affordable in-person conference in the Fall of 2024, there still are options out there like UX Y’All in Raleigh, UX CON’24 in Washington, or UXcon in Vienna. Attending independent events like these will allow you to meet people from different regional communities offering new perspectives, something we at CanUX truly believe in.
Disclaimer: CanUX is not affiliated in any way with the events listed above, we simply recognize other community conference out there.
