Meet our 2019 Diamond Sponsor: Shopify UX

Shopify features as Diamond sponsor for the first time in 2019

CanUX 2019    SHOPIFY

All of us at CanUX are thrilled to announce that our 2019 Diamond Sponsor is none other than our long term supporters Shopify, the acclaimed multinational e-commerce company headquartered right here in our own backyard in Ottawa, Canada. We caught up with the company’s VP of UX (and former CanUX speaker), Lynsey Thornton, and asked her to tell us a little bit more about Shopify UX.

Hello CanUXers!

We’re excited to see you at the conference. People from Shopify have been attending (and speaking at) CanUX for many years, so we’ve seen first-hand what a great experience you’re in for, and we’re proud to support it.

For those who don’t know us, we’re the largest home-grown UX team in Canada, with more than 350 people dedicated to empowering commerce at a global scale. We build products that help people start, manage, and scale their businesses. The team is a diverse one, made up mostly of product designers, researchers, UX developers, content strategists, and communication designers, but it’s also home to industrial designers, taxonomists, and accessibility experts. Our HQ is just a stone’s throw across the river from the conference venue, but we’re a global operation, with UXers working across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia.

We believe that Shopify is a place where you can do the best work of your career. We’ve worked hard to build a culture that allows that to happen. Being part of our UX team means that you have a strong voice in product strategy and work closely with product managers and engineers. It means that you’re given a problem and lots of autonomy to solve it, with all the UX disciplines contributing right from the project’s conception. It means that you’re given time and space to develop your craft, so that you can continue to learn new skills. It means that your career path doesn’t have to be linear, so you can let what excites you drive how you develop. And it means that you’ll have ample opportunity to connect with the people who use our products, and learning from these entrepreneurs will push you to grow in new ways.

Being a constant learner is built into the DNA of Shopify, so we’re excited to meet, listen, and learn from all the amazing attendees and speakers here this year (including our own Farai Madzima – don’t miss him!). If you want to learn more about what we’re working on, check out our blog, or stop by our booth to chat – we’re hiring for many different roles and locations. There are also dozens of us from Shopify UX attending, so please do say hello and tell us about what you’re working on.
