We’re thrilled to add the Chicago-based ethicist to our lineup.

The Discipline of Hope in UX
} Nov 3-4, 2023   TBA

As we reflect on the impact of the pandemic, chronic grief, and sociopolitical upheaval have had on our personal and professional lives, we must reflect on the impact it’s had on our ability to imagine what can and should be possible. We must reflect on one of the most overlooked disciplines within UX: the discipline of hope. What does hope look like in the midst of what can feel like ruin and rubble in our lives? What does hope look like in the midst of what can feel like ruin and rubble in the workplace?

There isn’t a more timely, practical, and relevant time to tether ourselves to a discipline of hope. Join us as we explore and deepen our ethic of curiosity and our ethic of imagination as we consider how our relationship to and with hope, impacts our approach to UX and explore practical rituals to keep us grounded as practitioners.

Speaker Bio: Vivianne Castillo

Vivianne Castillo (she/her) is the Founder of HmntyCntrd, an award-winning organization that’s committed to transforming the status quo of what it means to be human-centered in our professional and personal lives through community, courses, and consulting. She brings 8+ years of psychology and research experience spanning multiple contexts, cultures, and industries and her work and opinions have been written about in Slate, Fortune, Huffington Post, Fast Company, and ELLE Magazine. These days she’s dedicating the bulk of her time helping UX & Tech professionals do the personal work required to do their best professional work, building more holistically human-centered leaders through community and courses, coaching executives and teams on how to create sustainable trauma-informed cultures, and helping professionals choose courage over comfort in the workplace.

She’d also describe herself as a recovering-from-corporate-America Black woman, an absurdly passionate self-care advocate, a resident of the land where the pizza runs deep (#Chicago), an adaptable and ambitious pragmatic, and is committed to choosing courage over comfort in every facet of her life.
